Preparation

Pre-Ceremony Instructions

Please review these instructions carefully before the day of the bris.

For the Baby

  • Do not apply any cream or lotion to the baby's diaper area on the morning of the bris.
  • Dress the baby in a loose, easy-to-remove outfit.
  • Feed the baby normally — there is no need to withhold feeding before the procedure.
  • Have a clean diaper ready and within reach for after the procedure.

Setting Up the Room

  • Prepare a firm, stable table covered with a clean white tablecloth.
  • Ensure good lighting in the room — natural light is ideal.
  • Have a comfortable chair ready for the sandek (godfather).
  • Prepare a pillow covered with a white pillowcase for "Elijah's Chair" — a designated chair symbolizing the prophet Elijah's presence.

Items to Have Ready

  • A kiddush cup (wine cup)
  • Kosher wine or grape juice
  • Two white candles (if the bris is on Shabbat or a holiday)
  • A small bowl and towel for Rabbi Glantz to wash hands
  • Paper towels or gauze (Rabbi Glantz will bring medical supplies)

After Care Supplies

Rabbi Glantz will provide detailed after-care instructions at the ceremony. Have the following on hand:

  • Petroleum jelly (Vaseline) — plain, unscented
  • Non-stick gauze pads
  • Regular diapers (one size up may be more comfortable immediately after)
